Liebster Award

www.adashofsalter.com_hello, people!  thanksgiving just passed, and i am hoping that you all gobbled on those turkeys!! ––or, i am hoping that you did something fun if you don’t celebrate the said holiday —or, whatever if you’re not from the US.  i am super, duper, extra happy to inform y’all that i have been nominated for the Liebster Award by the amazing 15-year-old Zovi.  she is an amazing writer, and  i am grateful that such a person noticed my blog and nominated it.

the rules for the award can be found HERE.

i think my favorite blog of all times would be Sarah Doughty‘s.  she conjures amazing works, which have always inspired me to work on an old piece––a eulogy, really, when i get back to edit it––or to work on a new one.  her blog always draws me in, and i’d leave crying.  it seeds out opium, which i am obligated to plant—it is death flowering within me, with vines roping around my hollowed lungs and thorns piercing through my heart––i guess this is how i describe my butterflies when reading her works.  and, i am not quite sure if she enjoys it when her readers cry their eyeballs out…

What gets you through a bad day (or everyday)?
what gets me through a bad day is the thought of having tomorrow.  another day.  another chance to live.  another chance to get better at what i was bad at.  see, i suffer from depression, and i sometimes have to constantly remind this to myself.  that life does not end at the end of a terrible day however significant that may be.  that the night may be dark, but there are stars that still shine for me to see.  that tomorrow will come sooner than expected.

Who has been your role model? Why?
as cliche as it is, but my role model has always been my mom.  she raised me singlehandedly for fourteen years.  she crawled through dirt for us to survive.

Would you rather have more time or money?
right now, i’d have to choose money.  i am a fourth-year college student, struggling to pay his tuition fee each semester.  if you would like to donate to my cause, please leave a comment below.

Why do you write?
i write not only because i enjoy doing so but also because of many other reasons.  writing has become a coping mechanism against the mental disorder i mentioned above.  writing has been a method for me to convey my silent rumblings, the voice of my soul within my skin prison.  writing has become my bones so that i don’t sink beneath my feet.

Which is the first book that made you cry?
i don’t really remember, but hands down how to be a good wife by emma chapman… also the kite runner by khaled hosseini made me cry so much that i could have saved california from drought.

Does writing energize or exhaust you?
writing is energizing all while exhausting.  it energizes me at night, preventing me from sleeping.  it exhausts me during the day, preventing me from being productive.  you know the drill.

Do you think someone could be a writer if they don’t feel emotions strongly?
yes.  inspirations don’t have to come from vehement emotions…or just emotions.  everyone and anyone can be a writer if they chose to.

If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
don’t take a break from writing because it’s difficult to get back to the grind.  don’t quit because you’re good enough.

Which is your favorite post on my blog?
the storm –– it is both simple and elegant.

If you could bring back anyone from the dead, who would it be? Why?
you-know-who… you-know-why…

i nominate the following:

heartstring eulogies
written frames
surviving the struggles to success
the wanderlust keeper
scribbled verse
crow on the wire
reviiver
eyes + words
